The trend of developing open-source projects reached out academic environments. Nowadays, biotechnology students use micro-controllers to automate parts of their experiments. The same trend goes on in the industry, which is automating complex tasks, pushing forward digitization in the life sciences field.

In this talk, Alessandro uses the example of his open-source spectrometer to explain the central role of micro-controllers as platforms for the development of open-source lab equipment, highlighting how PS-Lab can support education and inclusion in life sciences by improving accessibility to tools and knowledge.
