On Tuesday, September 22, 2020 (Battery Day) Tesla announced plans to deliver an improved Model S. The new model would take advantage of Roadster technology and use the upcoming Plaid Powertrain to achieve some truly out of this world specifications. 520+ mi Estimated Range. A top speed of over 200 mph. And it can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds. These numbers seemed impossible for any car less than a million dollars just a few years ago but Tesla is promising to deliver these cars THIS YEAR. Alongside that, industry insiders have been speculating the Model S will receive a refreshed design to improve its looks. Some believe the exterior is becoming stale as little has changed since its launch in 2012. Others believe the interior will be improved and potentially redesigned to make it more like the Model 3 and Model Y. No matter what happens, we believe we may have had the first look at the new vehicle while driving around Palo Alto earlier today.

The car we saw has new headlights, a new wider body including slightly more flared out fenders and wider hips in the rear. This Model S also had (almost) all of its chrome deleted in favor of a black finish and a new set of performance looking wheels. About a year ago, Tesla raced to prepare a few of their existing vehicles to set some records at Laguna Seca Raceway and the Nürburgring and this, according to our dashcam footage and spy shots, looks like it is a more refined, consumer-ready version of that car. The only item missing is a rear wing or spoiler to maintain downforce on the track.

So what do you think, is this the upcoming Model S set to be delivered later this month or is this a prototype of the upcoming Model S Plaid?
